Henley Master’s Regatta, July 8-9, 2022

“The event was The Henley Masters Regatta, held July 8-9, 2022 on the Thames River, on the course that hosts the Royal Henley Regatta the week prior. Competitors were from around the world, and many (like me) spent the prior week enjoying the pomp and ceremony of the Royal Henley Regatta - truly a bucket list event! The course is a narrow one, without buoys between the boats, and bordered by log booms. The Umpire boat chases each race, warning boats if they drift too far to the center, and there is a lot of gamesmanship that takes place trying to throw dirty water to the other boat!
I raced both the women's 2x, E category and the Women's 1x E category. My double partner was Kim Wilson (she is in stroke seat) from TRC. We had some great races in the 2x and a barn burner of a final, which we won! I made it to the final race in the 1x but lost to a sculler from the UK. All in all a terrific experience. I highly recommend watching some youtube races from Royal Henley to see some great races - the dual format is truly unique and really intense.”
