School Regatta
March 27, 2004
1:00 -
5:30 p.m.
______________________________________
DRC’s initial plan of
a Texas-wide official regatta had to be shelved,
due to space
restrictions for trailers and boats recently imposed on
the DRC by the Dallas
Water Department.
Although we regret
the loss of out-of-town competitors, we will have
this “High School
Regatta” with schools operating their rowing pro-
gram out of the DRC boat house, plus ST.Mark’s and
Cambridge
School of Dallas.
We have conveniently
chosen the afternoon hours on March 27 to
allow HS Seniors time
for their “SAT” while we use the morning
hours to run a DRC Club
Competition from 8:00 to 12:00 noon.
The course will have
four lanes over 1000 meters and is ideally suited to test your competitiveness
one month prior to the State Championships in Austin.

Regatta Rules
1. Entry Deadline
Registration closes on March 15, 2004. Drop your
racing request,
accompanied by a check of $ 5 per
participating rower, into the
“Regatta Slot” upstairs (DRC boat
house) or mail to Fritz Woeste,
6110 Blackberry Lane, Dallas/TX
75248-4909.
Although late entries will be
permitted, they are not encouraged.
2. Liability Waiver
This regatta is for DRC-registered
school program rowers only and
waivers are therefore not required,
provided the individual school
programs will only sign-up registered
crew members. St. Mark’s
School of Dallas must provide signed
waivers prior to competition.
3. Race Day Check-in
All coaches are required to check-in their crews at
the DRC boat
house upon arrival. Any changes or
cancellations must be reported
at that time.
4. Safety and Course Rules
No boat is permitted on the lake except participants
approaching
starting point, racing or returning to
dock. On race day, the traffic
pattern on Bachman Lake is regulated
by Regatta Officials and must
be observed. Violators will risk
exclusion from the competition.
5. Dock Usage
All boats must depart from DRC docks
and proceed to the starting
point and return immediately upon
completion of the race to the
designated dock as per instruction of
the Dock Master.
Depending on prevailing traffic
situations the Dock Master may
deviate from earlier instructions, at
his discretion.
6. Novice Participants
Novice events are open to rowers in
their first year of competition.
No novice rower is allowed to compete
in a higher category.
7. Penalties
Violations of course lanes, late
arrival at the starting blocks, false
starts, excessive time on the dock and
unsportsman-like behaviour
result in time penalties or
disqualification, as deemed appropriate
by
regatta officials.
8. Progression System
Entries Heats Advancing

Regatta
Logistics
1. Lake Access
St.
Mark’s School will be storing and rigging their boats on
the concrete parking lot with access to the docks via the pedestrian bridge.
Assistance will be provided, if requested. All other schools are DRC tenants
and therefore independent in their handling of boats and oars.
2. Parking
Participants
are requested to park across the road on Shorecrest. Parents and visitors may
park along Shorecrest, the nearest to their view spot or across the lake in the
area of the finish line. More detailed parking instructions will be made
available after the registration deadline, when more details become apparent.
3. Safety
Participants
and spectators should be aware of the fact that Shorecrest is a curvy,
busy and narrow public road,
predominantly used as short-cut between NW Highway and Harry Hines. Extreme
caution is advisable. In comparison to Austin and The Woodlands, Bachman Lake
as a park area is less save.
4. Utilities and Refreshments
Dock, boat storage and spectator areas will have restroom
facilities. Fountain water is available inside the boat house. Refreshments and
fruits will be offered free of charge.
5. Organizational Points
A coaches and bowmen meeting will held immediately preceding the
beginning of the heats. Specific details about the course and the proceedings
will be announced. Depending on volume of sign-up and there from resulting time
restrains may make it necessary to park certain quads on the water under the
control of the Dock Master.
Protests and disputes, if any, will be handled by the Referee
and
the official Regatta Office at the DRC boat house.
Should
any important issue arise closer to race day, all schools will be informed
accordingly.
We
wish for perfect weather, excellent competition and fun for everyone.
